Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot. The two discussed the importance of diplomatic efforts to avoid escalation of the conflict in Lebanon, including by advancing the political process and implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. They also discussed ongoing efforts to resolve the conflict in Gaza by reaching a ceasefire agreement that brings home the hostages. The Secretary affirmed Israel’s right to defend itself against terrorism.
